A house in every family album

Dunhagi was built in 1933 and is the oldest community hall in the Westfjords. Children stayed here for swimming lessons at the pool across the road, and for decades it was the village dance hall. Today its walls are covered with old black-and-white photographs of the people who settled Tálknafjörður – a story of hard work, the sea and survival.

“This building is in every family's photo album here in the Westfjords.”

There's a record player in the dining room. Dagný loves country music, Nina Simone, the Gypsy Kings, Bob Dylan and Blossom Dearie – and if you don't like what's playing, just pick another record.

Both the owner and her lovely staff looked after us brilliantly – not to mention the absolutely delicious food. We had the halibut, the burger and the Arctic char – all highly recommended.
